Engineers and minefield

Postby greymalkin » Thu Apr 17, 2008 9:22 pm

I've encountered a few minefields while playing, I know that any unit with the "Engineer" ability may remove them, but will moving the unit into the hex trigger the mine, or can it be done from an adjacent hex?

Engineers make the army immune to mine damage.

You have to move into the hex with the engineer to work on a minefield. It may take several attempts to remove the minefield entirely.

Hrm, other than an engineer, is there another way to remove a minefield? (short of walking in and setting it off)

Not that I know of, though I haven't really tried. You could try sabotaging it.

Nah, I'm just going with the 'walk a 6 hp hero and a couple of monstrosities onto and off of it every other turn. I've got a hidden hive due S of the stupid thing, and it has to be blocking my supply lines as my supply extension was crappy after deploying the hive. To my west is a buncha nasty terrain which I guess blocked it that way after only a hex or two, but the terrain the minefield is in isn't something that would block it that bad, I wouldn't think.

Walking in and setting it off is the only alternative.

Honestly, my favorite way to take out minefields is to run over them with generated units; either thralls or cheap xenogytes from an egg chamber. I know it's not cost-effective, but i have this wonderful mental image of the poor, misbegotten beasts shambling onto the minefield and being blown to smithereens. I may have deep-rooted psychological issues.
