Couple of newb questions

Couple of newb questions

Postby TailSwallower » Sat Oct 29, 2011 6:23 am

I'd been contemplating getting Solium Infernum since I read the RPS AAR, and the NEVERONSTEAM sale was too good to pass up. I'm enjoying the game so far, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it more once I figure the game out better.

So, to that end, a couple of questions:
1. How does one increase the number of Orders per turn? I can't seem to find it in the manual, and searching around on the forum all I could find was some discussion about the number of Orders, but no simple explanation of the how.
2. Is there a way to see how many tokens have been drawn? I just completed a game against the AI and I only remember seeing a couple of tokens being drawn in the Turn Log, but then the game finished.
3. What do the different attributes actually do? Again, I couldn't find a simple explanation of it in the manual.

Thanks.

Hi!

I recently picked up the game, too, since it's the only one I didn't have from CC when the sale hit. I did read much of the manual, however, and I've played a couple games so here goes:

1) Increase your Orders Per Turn by raising your stats. IIRC, you need 4 in most stats, except for Martial (needs 5), and Charisma (don't think it does it at all ?). Well, technically you need 4 in the disciplines, or whatnot, whose base level is derived from stats and can be modified by Relics. There's at least one relice I've seen (and definitely used) that just plain gives you +1 Orders per turn when you have placed it.

2) You can see how many end game tokens have been drawn at the upper left corner of the game window, to the right of the magnifying glass. The first number in the ##/## represents how many tokens have been drawn this game and the latter is how many it takes to end the game.

3) The attributes give you extra abilities because they translate into the disciplines/skills mentioned in #1, above. One of the two also gives you some roll bonuses I believe, also. There is a cheat sheet made up somewhere that lists many of these things, but I think there is more basic ones near the end of the manual, too. In-game, you can see the extra abilities you get, from different levels, in the "Avatar" top tab, and by then selecting the second (and only other) sub-tab at the bottom, next to Stats.

The 'cheat sheet' can be found on Vic's site. http://www.crypticcomet.com/games/SI/SI_tutorials.html, it's not entirely accurate but it's as near as makes no difference

Thanks for the replies.

I think I made the mistake of starting the game and only going to the manual when I needed to find something. Probably would have been smoother sailing if I had read the manual in its entirety first. Started reading through the manual methodically over the weekend, and made some real progress against the AI, so we're picking up steam.

That cheat sheet and tutorial look very useful - now I just need to figure out how to download them from Scribd without giving them any money. I guess I'll have something to upload.
I wonder if Vic should get in touch with the creators of those docs and see about posting them on the CC site along with the manual...

Still not clear on what the Attributes actually effect in concrete terms, but I'll get there soon enough.

You might also wish to check out the wiki at http://si.battlespot.com

For example, the Attribute page has much more detail on what attributes do and why you'd want them.

You may also want to have a look at this guide, parts 1 until 6:

It gives a really clear step-by-step walkthrough of a lot of the common actions in the game.
